It was Palahniuk's first published novel, and since it was well-reviewed and popular, it gave Palahniuk's writing career a great start. If you're just interested in getting a reading copy of the Fight Club book, then it's affordable enough. You can probably find a copy of the book used for between $3 and $4. It's available in multiple editions. On the other hand, if you're a collector, and you're interested in something a little more special, then you can spend quite a bit of money on a collectible copy. An autographed first edition, first printing retails for $1500. If you can find it for much less than that, it's worth picking up, depending on the copy's condition. (The jacket is the most important thing that determines a collectible edition's value.) One of the major themes of the novel is the dissatisfaction a lot of men in modern society feel about their masculinity. In fact, several characters in the book complain about having been raised by their mothers because their fathers were absent.
